How to Buy a Golf Club Set

If you are a golfer, you can carry any combination of 14 clubs in your bag for a round of 18 holes. The standard set of golf clubs includes three woods, seven irons, a pitching wedge and a putter. For getting out of those sand traps, you may choose to add a sand wedge, or you can add additional wedges or clubs for a specific situation - such as chipping the ball over to the green. You may enjoy using drivers, modified woods with greatly increased club heads, to send the ball great distances on longer holes. The answer to how to buy a golf club set depends on your experience and how comfortable you are using each type of club.

  1. First: The strength of irons

You are more likely to use an iron from the fairway than any other club. Use them to make approach shots, recovery shots and chip shots, among others. When buying irons, you can opt for traditional irons or "game improvement" irons; these improvement clubs are good if you are at an average skill level or below. They offer great features like an oversize face or a lower center of gravity to compensate for your skill and potentially imprecise ball striking. Traditional irons are good for a higher level of playing, and they do not usually come with special shot-making features. You may feel that they provide more grip and better control.

  2. Second: The sturdiness of woods

Woods are generally for hitting your longest shots from the fairway and for the initial shot off the tee. Woods have been previously made out of persimmon and laminated wood; woods are now made from a variety of metals. These clubs are much more forgiving on your hits than previous versions. Club heads are also larger, and they provide more club that makes contact with the ball.

  3. Third: The precision of putters

Putters are used more than any other club in the bag. In a complete round of golf, you are likely to use your putter more than 40 times. The key features of a putter are the head of the club, the alignment system, the loft and the head shape. Putters also come with inserts that can reduce skipping at impact. While they are said to be the most personal of all the clubs, you do not need to choose an expensive one to putt well. Comfort is the biggest factor you can take into consideration.
